special characters inserted before editor from nowhere -

I've just implemented 2.4.1 over 2.4 in exactly the same way that was working fine with 2.4, but it seems to have inserted  just before the editor textarea.

This is the same in FF and IE.

Same problem here, it didn't happen in v2.4. IE is showing an unknown character (displayed as a square), and Firefox shows "".

Do you think you can attach a sample page with the editor on it which shows the problem so we can try to reproduce it here?
