merge of table cells doesn't work in IE

Description

Merge of table cells doesn't work in IE unless there is content in the cells. This works in FF.

Merge cells above each other does not work for me. Using FF 1.5.0.4, tried on current demo page - v2.3

This one has been fixed for version 2.5.
